Santo Christo Parish is a Catholic church serving Fall River, Massachusetts. Established in 1892, our Portuguese parish is a mother church of the ethnic Portuguese parishes in the Fall River area. We encourage you to become involved with our vibrant community and attend mass, engage in special programs, and receive the sacraments. Our congregation has about 700 people; services are provided in English and Portuguese.
Our name, Santo Christo Parish, is the only Catholic parish with this name in the world. The original name, Senhor Santo Christo dos Milagres, is connected to the phrase, "Holy Christ Of the Miracles." We incorporate the image of Christ scourged and crowned before the Crucifixion. This is known as "Ecce homo" and is Latin for, "behold the man," and draws from Pontius Pilate's statement in John 19:5. This figure is widely revered on the island of St. Miguel in the Azores, where much of our community has roots. For this reason, this image is generally associated with our parish.
